"In Madrid, in less than 30 years, more than 50% of the public fountains in service have been lost, which now are seen to be dismantled, broken, without a tap to drink from or simply dry. To criticize the indifference of the administration in regards to a necessary public service, we carried out our action. We have spent more than 4 months collecting the glass containers of the multiple vitamin supplement Infatrini, prescribed for little Alicia, who is now 1 year old, and whose father Fernando has been saving them for us with all the patience in the world. In total they have donated more than 200 vials to us that we have thoroughly cleaned and used to create our individual and luminous streams of water. On a cold night at the end of January, we went out into the street and took control of 4 unused public fountains in the city center, bringing them back to life for a few hours. We wanted to say that water is necessary for life and that the fountains that are used for drinking and refreshing ourselves seem much more necessary and beautiful to us than those which are merely ornamental, which the citizens cannot normally get close if not for some football event of “national interest”... It was not a juried decision or competition, it was just a group of writers, educators, type designers and type users coming together to pick some of their loves. Of those 50 that were chosen, I've selected a few of my faves, but of course, you can have a look for yourself on the website as well. (From the top of the images) Reina, designed and completed by Sproviero at 24 (dang it!!) is beautiful and comes in 12, oh yes, TWELVE separate fonts. Ah, it just kills me! Sutturah, by Octavio Pardo, is lavish, brush-like and just plain fun. Oban, a Didone model, meaning high contrasts between thick and thins of the lines and ball-terminal endings (my favorite). Adding in some triangle tips and you've got yourself a hot typeface! Lastly, Acta, which was originally designed for a Chilean newspaper. The designs consists of text, display and a heavier poster weight. You might also notice a higher x-height and just a hint of Latin flare. http://www.justanotheragency.com.au/blogarticle2626 Fri, 17 Feb 2012 00:00:00 +1100 Martin Klimas Porcelain figurines I was fascinated the first time I saw German photographer Martin Klimas series 'Porcelain Figurines'... not only for his ability to capture such a moment, but mostly the evident movement displayed in each image. "The collection of images were captured just as each of the fragile objects hit the ground after being dropped from a height of 9.8 feet. the artist was able to take the photos by wiring his camera in such a way that the sound each figurine made as they touch the ground tripped the device's shutter release." "In addition to the dynamic quality observed in the pose of each porcelain action character, by dropping the objects, Klimas is able to enhance the sense of liveliness through the shard-constructed elongation of each figure's form." Martin is a master of these "freeze frame" style captures and has many other great series over on his site... www.martin-klimas.de http://www.justanotheragency.com.au/blogarticle2621 Thu, 16 Feb 2012 00:00:00 +1100 VNA Stick em up Competition Some of you may have seen my Instagram of the photo of my old Panel Van (that now belongs to Shannon from Secret Wars) covered in stickers the other day... "Beginning travels in Ecuador and visiting the Galapagos Islands onto Peru and hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, followed by Bolivia and its Salt Flats then onto Argentina and the Iguazu Falls, finishing in Brazil and touring the Rocinha Favela and the party of Carnival, the show covers much of the continent." Recently taking out the travel section in the 2011 Monster Children Photo Annual and receiving an honorable mention in the Blurb Photography Book Now Competition, 2012 is looking to be a strong year for Jay and the Maiden Voyage show a great start! 'Maiden Voyage' opens at the Mr Simple (775 Glenferrie Road, Hawthorn) on Thursday 23rd February from 6-9pm... and runs until March 1st. Find out more about Jay at - www.imjaychapman.com http://www.justanotheragency.com.au/event2620 Thu, 16 Feb 2012 00:00:00 +1100 Home A couple of weeks back Luke Ryan teamed up with Hayden Dewar to work with the Artful Dodgers Studios to hold some mural workshops with the kids from the Atherton Gardens Housing Estate. Given the brief of 'Home' the guys collaboratively came up with a design for gigantic animals carrying ramshackle homes made out of junk on their backs. "The animals had various rugs attached to them, these 'rug' sections were set aside for the kids to paint whatever they felt on them. The kids created some very free-form abstract patterning which contrasted nicely with our more illustrative design, but more importantly they had fun with it, got to paint and engage with creative people." - Hayden Dewar The kids seem to have really enjoyed the experience and I just LOVE how they incorporated the children's painting... now they have a great mural that they get to look at everyday. http://www.justanotheragency.com.au/blogarticle2606 Wed, 15 Feb 2012 00:00:00 +1100 Bode in Oz Tour I'm sure most of you are already aware but if you, like me are slightly behind the times then I'm happy to let you know... House of Bricks & China Heights proudly present “Bode in Oz.“  Yep! This February, Mark Bode will be taking a 2 week tour of Melbourne and Sydney, painting murals with Australian artists and exhibiting a collection of original work along with the performance of a Cartoon Concert in both cities. For two generations Mark and his father Vaughn Bode have forged an artistic legacy that has had a profound effect on graffiti, street art and underground comics. In the mid seventies, the iconoclastic Vaughn Bode’s comic book characters, particularly Cheech Wizard resonated so closely with the revolutionary spirit of pioneering graffiti artist that these characters were adopted as the mascots of the movement, becoming the first used in graffiti. In recent years Mark Bode, an accomplished graffiti artist, tattooist, illustrator and writer, has stretched the horizons of the Bode universe beyond imagination, creating several cult classic comics, perhaps the best known being Colbalt 60, which is currently slated by Zack Snyder for a live action film. Bode is also something of a nexus for the world street art and graffiti art scene, the heir to the first graffiti characters, a genuinely positive visionary and a backbone of the community he has painted murals around the globe with an extended family consisting of the most respected graffiti and street artists. Melbourne – OPENING Saturday 18th February 6-9pm at House Of Bricks - 40 Budd St,  Collingwood. Sydney – OPENING Saturday 25th February 6-9pm at China Heights - Level 3, 16-28 Foster Street, Surry Hills. http://www.justanotheragency.com.au/event2605 Wed, 15 Feb 2012 00:00:00 +1100 Pat Perry I have fallen a little in love with Pat Perry's work so I figure, who better to share with you on Valentines Day... Pat Perry is an artist and illustrator based in Michigan. "The lands of the north, colorful people, music, and the ordinary streets of the Midwest" have always moved him. Personally I love the detail in his work, whether it be his black and white ink drawings or beautiful acrylic paintings the lines, movement and flow to his work manage to draw me in every time... If you head to his website you not only get to check out a myriad of his works but he also has a process section where you get some insight into where his pieces stem from and how they evolve to the end product. Happy Valentine's Day, hope you Enjoy! http://www.justanotheragency.com.au/blogarticle2602 Tue, 14 Feb 2012 00:00:00 +1100 Da Mental Vaporz La Venin Exhibit "The prolific French graffiti crew Da Mental Vaporz is leaving France with its artic weather conditions and presidential elections delirium to enjoy sunny horizons down under." Not known for its "standard" fonts, Hype for Type is all about collaborating with designers to pump awesomeness. From hand-crafted to eclectic, Hype is fun and unique. Launching a 16 page A3 magazine with their exclusive typefaces, I pretty much drooled when I saw it. Not only in classic, simplistic red, black, white and a bit of grey of course, the typefaces are based around the conceptual theme: Typographic Revolt. Take a look and if you are interested in purchasing a copy, you can click here. http://www.justanotheragency.com.au/blogarticle2597 Fri, 10 Feb 2012 00:00:00 +1100 ...
