Giles Kilham a.k.a FatAnkle was born in the UK in 1975.. moved to Melbourne in 1979, then moved up to Brisbane in 1984 and has been there ever since.
Inspired by underground comix, poster art, people that are out there doing what they do because they love it and not cause it's going to make them a squillion dollars, street art, juxtapoz and fast food propaganda. Giles graduated with a Diploma in Traditional Illustration before moving onto what he loves the most, comixs. Creating the well known brand Phatsville Comixs, a true blue, fair dinkum, aussie comic goodness.
In 2006 Giles and Brett Weekes curated 'Dex' a skateboard exhibition showcasing works from designers, street artists, tattooists, illustrators and many more. After the show being a hit they went on to curate 'FreQee' in 2007, a custom toy show again featuring a large range of versatile artists. both exhibitions were shown at the Brisbane Powerhouse.
"I like to think about a job or piece of work for a few days before I pick up a pencil and scribble ideas down. I like to have a vision of exactly what I want the piece to turn out like and then work towards achieving that result. It doesn't always turn out like I envision but it's also fun to work out hurdles and problems (except if they are IT based, then problems just suck balls!)... depending on the job I like to find a balance between traditional and computer based. My creative thoughts usually come from a silly idea or comment. Especially humourous stuff, anything I find funny I will usually try to turn into a piece of art somehow."
